Personal Ethics Statement
“Ethics is knowing the difference between what you have a right to do and what is right to do.”-Potter Stewart Ethics are such an important part of my life and part of the reason I chose a career in communications. I think a lot of people assume that when you work in a field like PR or journalism you’re automatically unethical or you lie to make people believe what you want them to believe even if that isn’t the case.
Integrity is such an important value to me. Ever since I was a child I have been taught to believe that the trust that people put in you is the most important thing. Without it you can’t really do anything, you especially cannot be a successful communicator if people do not trust what you are saying. I would never want to present a message to the public that was false because it made a client or someone else look good I think the best way to deal with a situation is being completely honest at the complete right time.
I also believe in being loyal to my own views as well as the views of my clients as long as they are being ethical themselves. I don’t believe as communicators it’s our job to be the judge or the jury in a given situation but I do believe that we should follow our own moral codes when choosing clients and their companies.
"It's okay to be scared. Being scared means you're about to do something really, really brave." My name's Kaitlyn and graduating from college was one of the most terrifying and exciting experiences of my life. I graduated with a Bachelors degree in Public Relations. After graduation I decided there was no place like home and moved back to Burlington, North Carolina.

Currently I work for Parks and Recreation in Alamance County under our Visitors Bureau. I Visitor Service's coordinator for our county. This basically means that I am the connecting piece between those who live here and those who are thinking of visiting or moving. Since graduating from App I have done a little bit of everything but my focus in all of these positions has been community engagement and relations. I have also received a Master's Degree from North Carolina A&T in Education.

During my time at App I was the President of our Her Campus Media chapter and wrote for them for three years and have been published through them multiple times. I was also published in Refinery29's 29 under 29 series.
My main focuses now outside of local government are community relations and event management. I
I have a long history with events. I have been working in and with events for the last 10 years. I've been everything from a volunteer to the lead organizer. I am now on a Chapter advisory board for my Sorority where I help advise and plan their events. My time in education was also full of them with Homecoming's, Pageant's, fundraisers and Prom. One of my main functions when I worked at Graham High School was coordinating events for our Pre-Collegiate Academy. Now in my role with Visitor Services I'm able to work with events on a more promotional scale.
